Guilt trip

So this past saturday, I attended a Filipino-American Christmas party. It was fine and all but I was really just there for the food. As I was leaving to go hang out with RPG and Elf, I got roped into helping an older member of the community to her car.

She’s quite old and has to rely on a walking cane due to one of her knees no longer having cartiledge at the joint. So it’s easy to imagine that her top walking speed would be around 2ft/minute (crude and exagerated guesstimate). Anyway that’s besides the point I want to talk about.

So as I was helping her down the front steps of the building where the party was taking place, she was thanking me and complimenting me for being nice and helpful. She even went as far as to say I’m like a guardian angel.

STOP

Wait… what?

Here was an old lady telling me how much of nice young man I was but I on the other hand was pointing out (in my head) how wrong she was by going through some of the evil deeds I’ve done in the past. I was tempted to say “Lady if you knew how many screws in my head were missing, you sure as hell wouldn’t be calling me an angel.” but I decided to keep my mouth shut and just accept the compliments. Somewhere out there, a bunch of angels must have either laughed their asses off or recoiled in horror at the thought of me being one of them.

Just so that we’re all clear, yes I’m a nice person in general but I’ve done some things (I plead the 5th Amendment) through out my life that would definitely count me out of being considered worthy enough to be an angel.
