My main machine
In two months from now, my computer will be hitting it’s first year of operation so I figured it’s about time I took a picture. I decided to do some cable management to help with cooling and make it look decent inside but the Antec 300 case doesn’t really give much in the way of options.
This was the best I could do considering my power supply is not modular and the cable is not long enough to route around the fans or even behind the case (see upper left). I managed to stick most to the cables in the space provided between the back of the case and the hard drive bay.
It still looks ugly but it will have to do. At the very least, I achieved part of what I had set out to do which is to move the cables out of the way so that there would be better air flow within the case. Since I don’t have a glass sided case, I’m not too bothered with the way it looks right now.
Maybe in 5 years from now I’ll move over to a new case with better options for cable management. In the mean time, I’ll keep using this case when I eventually upgrade my cpu.
For those curious, here’s what I’ve go inside the rig:
- AMD Phenom II x2 550 (It handles well whatever I’ve thrown at it so far) with stock cooler (lol)
- Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 Motherboard
- 4GB DDR3-1333 Ram
- Coolmax 600W power supply
- Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
- Generic DVD burner with lightscribe (bought it at Office Depot, threw away the box so I don’t know the brand anymore)
- Liteon DVD burner + Blu ray Rom
- Seagate Sata HDD 500 GB (Louise)
- Seagate Sata HDD 1TB (Henrietta)
In 2 or 3 years from now I plan to add more hard drives (Siesta, Tabitha, etc…) and upgrade my cpu to at least a Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition and get a better cpu cooler.
