[W] Summer 2011: Week 2
It’s week 2 and another show has been added to my watch list. (shakes an angry fist)
The iDOLM@STER
This week is a subtle focus on Iori along with Yayoi and the twins on the side. The girls of 765 are retaking their promotional pictures to get better job offers and auditions. We get to see a little bit more about each character’s personality. It was funny to see how the 4 girls try to doll themselves up only to over-do it and look like a big mess. Also, that Jupiter bastard can go die in a fire.
Mawaru Penguindrum -This week’s featured banner-
What a twist… sort of. Penguin Queen sends the brother to look for Ringo and try to retrieve the Penguindrum from her. The entire episode is spent following Ringo which ultimately reveals her deviant nature. At the moment, we still don’t know what the Penguindrum is and why Ringo would have it.
Kamisama no Memochou
Second case and this time it deals with the daughter of an ex-yakuza in search of her father who told her to retrieve a bag from a safe and to run away. Though nothing gets resolved in this episode (it continues on to the next one), we learn about Meo’s father’s situation and get a small bit of character developement on Tetsu. Narumi reminds me a lot of Mikado from Durarara. There must be a similarity in personality somewhere.

Well… if the third episode will be as entertaining as the this episode was, I may have to keep watching this show. It’s nice to know that there is a good reason as to why Suzutsuki (Rich troll) is subjecting Jirou and Konoe through awkward situations. I just think they’re all going the long way about it. Watching everyone, including Jirou’s sister, get the wrong impression about his sexual preference is quite hilarious. My opinion of this show has gone up.
Usagi Drop
Cuteness knows no bounds in this show. Daikichi is struggling to keep a balance with work and Rin and so far he’s barely getting by. His commute to Rin’s kindergarten then to work is quite a killer that even I wouldn’t be willing to put up with it after a while. On the brighter side of things, it’s good to see Daikichi putting out as much effort as he can (even when he’s exhausted) to do what’s right for Rin, make some personal sacrifices, and to be considerate of her feelings.
Ro Kyu Bu!
More basketball training and Subaru finds out why the girls want him to coach them. The drama is a bit heavy on this episode but doesn’t take away too much from the show. I get the feeling that the show is trying to sell a Subaru-Tomoka pairing despite the age gap to the audience.
NO. 6
A quick timeskip after the events that happened in episode 1, we find Shion and his mom kicked out of the elite residential area and are now trying to get by in the lower class district. We’ve got awkward childhood friend conversation, mysterious illness killing people, BEES!, and badmouthing big brother. What more can we throw in to spice up Shion’s life? How about having his bromolust friend Nezumi show up after many years have passed. Yeah… Shion’s excellent adventure still goes on.
Kamisama Dolls
Wasn’t planning on picking this up but the mecha fan in me just couldn’t resist. Mysterious organization / village… check
Protagonist with a chip on his shoulder… check
Former childhood friend who is out to kill you… check
Powerful mech that no one know for sure where it came from but use it anyway… check
Token moeblob little sister who can control said mech… check
Useless big breasted female friend who at this point only serves as fanservice… check
Sure I’m being a bit harsh here but I am enjoying this show so far. I’ve seen 3 episodes so far and they’re alright in my book. I’m giving it a generous 5 episode test.
