[W] Winter + Spring Wrap-up

It’s always fun to have a jam session

Ahh.. finally, the winter and spring wrap up. For this post, I will not cover the shows from fall that ended in winter (I’m looking at you Guilty Crown). Anyway, I’m slowly making progress so why delay things more? Let’s get moving!

Favorite show of the season:

Winter: Rinne no Lagrange – I went into this with no expectations at all but the opening hooked me in and the story kept me watching every week. It helps that the girls had some nice flight suits

Homerun!

Yes, this was taken out of context

Spring: Fate/Zero Season 2 – This prequel is far better than Fate/Stay Night though to be a bit fair, FSN was done by Deen while FZ was done by Ufotable. There wasn’t enough Rider on screen.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Father’s Day Kiritsugu!

Favorite opening and ending:

I’m not sure how long these videos will stay up and I sure as hell am not going to upload them on our servers so enjoy them while they last. Finding decent vids for the spring favorites were a pain in the ass and I had to resort to using vimeo and dailymotion. Hell, the Aquarion Evol vid is subbed in Greek. FML I may not do this category in my summer wrap up if I run into the same problem.

Winter:
Opening: Rinne no Lagrange

Ending: Aquarion Evol (Ending #1)

Spring:
Opening: Aquarion Evol (Opening #2)

Ending: Eureka Seven AO

Good:

Another – This was a great psychological thriller. Sure there were some parts to could use some improvement (Last 2 episodes’ final destination) but in the end, the final twist cemented this show in my good category.

That damn bird. Rei doesn’t know the answer.

Best day of class ever.

Daily Lives of High School Boys – This turned out to be a lot better than what I was expecting. There were times when the jokes fell flat but for the most part, I found myself laughing at a segment here and there. Karasawa and Habara’s relationship is quite amusing.

The show gained a lot of fans from /a/ after this scene.

They opened Pandora’s box and immediately regretted it.

Nisemonogatari – That toothbrush scene… I’m not going to forget that easily. Even though she had a small amount of screen time Nadeko stole the show for me.

Can’t have a Shaft show without the head tilt.

NOOOOOOO

Accel World* – Is it wrong that characters like Kuroyukihime, Chiyuri, and Yuniko are my main motivation for keeping up with this show? Haruyuki does deserve some credit since he can be badass as Silver Crow at times.

Henshin!

Kuroyukihime vs Chiyuri, round 2. FIGHT!

Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead – Imaginary Eu and Ariel killed me. I hope there will be a season 3 and I hope it will at least be a full 12 episode season. Being Ayumu is great suffering.

Let me show you the dance of my people.

Resistance is futile

Sakamichi no Apollon – Music was the main reason I picked this up and it kept me going even when the relationship polygon started to get messy in a 5 person mix.

Asking girls out is really tough. Why must they travel in packs of 3?

Not sure if that’s her version of “The Scream” or she’s trying to make the viewer scream…

Alright:

  • Ano Natsu de Matteru – I’m not too fond of slice-of-life love triangles but this show made it bearable. I blame all those images of Kana on Danbooru for getting me to check it out.
  • Aquarion Evol – Crazy super robot show. Didn’t watch the original and the ova so I may have missed out on a few key relationships.
  • High School DXD – Main cheese cake show for winter that turned out quite entertaining.
  • Inu x Boku SS – Karuta and Nobara drew me in and most of Kagerou’s appearances made me laugh. Miketsukami is definitely a creepy stalker.
  • Mouretsu Pirates – Not exactly the kind of pirate show I was expecting but interesting in its own way. I plan to watch the movie whenever it comes out.
  • Eureka Seven AO* – There’s a lot of confusion to where this show fits into the Eureka Seven timeline. Since we know that Ao is Eureka’s son, I think it’s safe to say that this is a sequel but so far everything seems to point toward taking place in either the past or an alternate dimension. I hope it gets cleared up soon.
  • Hyouka* – This show has high visual production values. Aside from the film screening arc, I find the other mysteries to be interesting.
  • Tasogare Otome x Amnesia – Low production budget aside, the story itself was entertaining. Once we got to Yuuko’s past, I couldn’t wait to see the next episode.

So-so:

  • Black Rock Shooter – I had to force myself to watch this at times but for the most part it was ok.
  • Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai – Pretty much a cheese cake show. Raika definitely helped keep things interesting.
  • Zero no Tsukaima F –  As much as I love Louise, RPG and I agree that the show itself is mediocre. We’re just glad it got a proper ending.
  • Jormungand – The main draw for this show is action. Just as Rinne no Lagrange did, this show is taking 1 season off before finishing up the story.
  • Sankarea – The show more or less followed the manga, only adding a few filler to flesh out some characters such as Rea’s mother.

Why did I even bother?

None!

Dropped:

  • Shining Hearts

Backlog hell:

  • Amagami SS Plus
  • Saki Achiga-hen – Still waiting on Underwater to finish subbing this show
  • Queen’s Blade: Rebellion

Stats for the year:

25 shows
03 still airing
01 dropped
03 in backlog hell

* = Still airing

I was hoping I would not have to drop any shows this year but alas, this is not the year for a perfect record.
