[W] Gunslinger Girl: It’s finally over
I picked up the first volume of Gunslinger Girl back in 2004. RPG, Elf, and I decided to go manga shopping at Waldenbooks and Gunslinger Girl managed to catch my eye that day. Eight years and 100 chapters later, the story has finally reached it’s conclussion.
From the very first chapter, I fell in love with the story, the setting, and the characters (the girls to be more precise).
I was happy to find out that the series had an anime adaptation, frustrated when the US manga release died after volume 6, entertained with the second season anime adaptation (haters gonna hate), had mixed feelings about Seven Sea’s omnibus releases (only because I am not to crazy about having to re-buy volumes 1-6), full of despair to see my favorite characters die, and finally neutral, yes neutral, when I found out the series was ending.
Just like Negima, Gunslinger Girl holds a special place on my shelf. It’s been a sort of companion for me during the days of dial up internet when I had to wait for my turn to get online or didn’t have any service at all. I’ve read the first 6 volumes over and over throughout those 8 years and finally moved on to the later chapters when I found the scanlations.
Last month, I decided that I will go ahead and buy the omnibus editions including the first 6 volumes. While I currently don’t have the finances to invest in it at the moment, it is on my “Complete ASAP” list along with Negima and Yotsubato.
It’s been a long journey and I look for to next one should Yu Aida decide start another series.
