Upgrading your WordPress 2.6.+ installation to WordPress 2.7

This is a quick and overly simplified instruction on what to do to upgrade you WordPress 2.6+ installation to 2.7. It assumes you are using WordPress 2.6.0 or higher.

Before you start, you will need your current wp-config.php and wordpress 2.7 zip

[wp-config.php]
On the left we have wordpress’ wp-config-sample.php for 2.6.2 and on the right is 2.7.0’s. The only main difference between the two is that 2.7 requires a 4th unique phrase.

so copy the information from your 2.6 wp-config to 2.7’s wp-config-sample.php
do remember to rename the file to wp-config.php or else your blog won’t work

rpg and jigo tell me that 2.6’s wp-config will work with 2.7

[what to delete]
all wordpress files except the following:
wp-content folder and the files within it
any file that you modified

[what not to upload]
wp-content folder : if you upload this, you will erase any plugin and theme you have in your current blog

After uploading 2.7’s files, go to <you blog url here>/wp-admin/upgrade.php

Follow the instructions from that page and you should be good to go.
